Girl Scouts
Motivational Poster Statement
Girl Scouts of Western Ohio and Girl Scouts of the USA (GSUSA) is
aware of a viral poster titled “Motivational Poster of the Day,”
depicting a young girl with a devious smile, pictured in front of a
burning house, with a tag line about buying cookies. Neither GSUSA
nor any Girl Scout council had anything to do with the creation or
distribution of this poster. Occasionally, GSUSA will learn about a
spoof in advance but generally we learn of such spoofs along with
most other viewers. GSUSA’s Trademark and Licensing Department
reviews these kinds of things and works with legal counsel to
ascertain if and when action can/should be taken. However, from a
licensing perspective, this poster is not an infringement of our
brand.
As one of America’s most iconic brands for now 97 years, and a part
of the fabric of every community, it is natural that Girl Scouts
image or likeness will be spoofed in comic strips, on the web, on
television, films or in commercials from time to time.
