Special Council Meeting Called

On October 23, 2007, a very special council meeting will be held. This will be an historic meeting as the voting delegates of Buckeye Trails Council cast the final endorsement vote that will make us Girl Scouts of Western Ohio.

Merging Girl Scout Councils Conduct Survey of Organizational Services & Culture --- Let your voice be heard!

The four councils merging to form Girl Scouts of Western Ohio will be conducting an Organizational Survey of Services & Culture. Survey results will be used to guide the building of the new council. If you are contacted to participate in this survey, please take time to do so. If you hear of someone who is contacted to participate, please encourage them to participate. Increased participation helps to provide increased confidence in survey findings. Read a message from the CEO about the survey.

New Event Catalog Arrives in mailboxes

"WHAT'S HAPPENING!" has been mailed to all Girl Scout households. Included in this new book are news, program listings, adult learning opportunities and helpful information. This comprehensive book replaces the old Buckeye Trails University catalog, Just Us Girls and Totally You program guides. We hope you enjoy the convenience of having everything in one book.

X Marks the Spot First Girl Scout Party of the Year!

Ahoy Girl Scouts! Come and join us for a pirate party and celebrate International Talk Like a Pirate Day! You will make parts of a pirate costume, follow a treasure map to find booty, make piratical crafts, and eat piratical foods. It'll be sure to shiver your timbers!

Columbus zoo "from shore to sea"

Dear Scouts, Leaders, and Parents,

Thank you for your interest in the Columbus Zoo's "From Shore to Sea" Interest Project! We invite you to join us as we take an in-depth look at the "world of water" and explore the Zoo's role in preserving and protecting our oceans. Program highlights include hands-on activities, guest presenters, and use of the Zoo's many resources including a visit to Discovery Reef and our Penguin exhibit.

Who:   Cadette and Senior Girl Scouts
What:  From Shore to Sea Interest Project
When:  Saturday, November 3, 2007. 10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. 
Where:  The Columbus Zoo and Aquarium
Cost:  $25 per Girl Scout. Leaders that remain with the girls during the program are admitted at no charge.
How:  Pre-registration is required. Call or email Amy at 614-724-3657 or scouts@columbuszoo.org to register. Registration closes October 6th, 2007 and is limited to the first 100 girls.

More information: 
 Registration is limited to the first 100 girls.
 It is not required, but we highly recommend that you register as a troop.
 Once the program has been filled or upon registration close, you will be invoiced for the number of girls registered.
 During the course of the workshop seven activities from the four different categories will be completed. If the scout stays for the completion of the workshop and participates in all of the activities, she will earn her "From Shore to Sea" Interest Patch the same day.
 The Interest Project patch is included in the cost of the program which you will receive at the end of the program.
 Due to the badge requirements and water-themed program, we will not be visiting all areas of the Zoo. However, the Zoo does not close until 5:00 p.m. so you are more than welcome to stay and explore the areas and animals of interest to you after the program.

Youth Scholarship Auditions (ages 13-18) Wright State University Musical Theatre/Acting Preparatory Program

The Wright State University Musical Theatre/Acting Preparatory Program (MAPP) is pleased to announce auditions for MAPP Youth Scholarships (ages 13-18) on Saturday, August 25, 2007. MAPP will award two talent based scholarships for each of the Fall, Winter, and Spring Academic Quarters during the 2007-2008 MAPP academic year…. a total of six scholarships! Each recipient will receive a Musical Theatre Package (1/2 hr. Private Voice, Acting Class, Broadway Jazz Dance Class, Tap Class) for one 10 week quarter with MAPP. 

Requirements for the scholarships are as follows:  prepare one memorized song (applicant must supply sheet music for accompanist; no cd's) and one memorized monologue from a published play or musical (no longer than two minutes in length). A scholarship application and entrance fee of $10 must be received by August 17, 2007.  Judges for the auditions are Brian McKnight, Acting Faculty/Sinclair Community College; Resident Artist/Human Race Theatre Company and Dr. Wendy LeBorgne, Voice Instructor; Voice Pathologist; Director of The Blaine Block Institute for Voice Analysis and Rehabilitation.

Tipp City Girl Scout Honored

Congratulations to Virginia Zimmerman from Tipp City (Troop 1292) who has been named the Piqua YWCA's Young Woman of Tomorrow. Virginia was also one of the nominees for GSUSA's Young Women of Distinction this past year.

Darke County Troops Win Awards

Troops from Treaty/Tri-South won two awards for their float at Annie Oakley Days in Greenville. They were awarded Miss Annie Oakley Choice and the Youth Award! Congrats to those members!

Summer hours are Monday through Friday 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. We will be closed on Saturdays except for Saturday, August 25 when we will be open from 10 a.m. - 4 p.m.
