THANK YOU!
Dear Friends,
A big thanks to all of you that attended our
Annual meeting and awards ceremony last week. It
was a very exciting evening for our membership.
The delegates elected an impressive and committed
slate of Board officers, new members at large and
governance committee members. Congratulations to
all! Special recognition and appreciation was
extended to the retiring Board members Mary Karen
Bierman, Doug Gage, Lillian Johnson, Nicole
Johnson, Stan Lucas, Lee Seoh, and Penny Wolff.
We also had the opportunity to present our
outgoing Chair, Debbie Watts with the Thanks Badge
and a standing ovation for all of her outstanding
accomplishments. Debbie will continue in an
Ex-officio capacity as the co-chair for the GS
I-75 corridor Council Realignment. (see power
point presentation about the Girl Scout
Realignment Strategy and timeline)
Following the realignment presentation, the
evening was turned over to the Volunteer Awards
committee and staff. They recognized all the
amazing accomplishments of our dedicated
volunteers and Service Units. We honored 8 Service
Units with the President's award; 5 individuals,
including a staff member received the Buckeye
Trails award for outstanding service; four women
received the Green Badge of Courage for their
dedication during personal challenges; 23
volunteers received Appreciation pins; and 6
volunteers and a staff member received the Honor
pin.
One of the highest honors that an adult in the
Girl Scout organization can receive is the Thanks
badge. This year's recipients were Laurie Gilmore
and Debbie Watts. Congratulations and grateful
appreciation to all of these outstanding
winners.
Finally, I had the privilege to recognize the
following staff members for their years of
dedicated service to Buckeye Trails. The five year
pin was given to Brenda Carabin; 10 year to Mark
Spencer; 15 year to Laura McCray, Phylliss
Robinson-Ralph, Jeannine Russell, and Sandra
Smittie. Special recognition of 30 year's of
service was given to Judy Lattimore and Romona
Roberts. Congratulations to all.
Yours in Scouting, Ann Granger,
CEO

model and everything Girl Scout by reading your
LEADER magazine. Here is a peak at what's inside
the Summer 2006 issue:
"It's not what you do, but how you do it,"
according to the summer 2006 LEADER article on
"The New Emerging Program Model." This
concise article explains what the new model offers
girls and volunteers: discovery, leadership and
action.
"College Bound: Helping Girls Get Ready"
pinpoints specific programs and resources Girl
Scout volunteers can use to support and encourage
older girls as they consider and prepare for
college, beginning in the middle school
years.
LEADER introduces a new regular column from the
National Funding Group at GSUSA. And
volunteers with great memories of their Girl Scout
experience will want to register for the National
Alumnae Program announced in this inaugural

RELIGIOUS RECOGNITIONS EARNED
Pamela Segalewitz and Kara Markman, 3rd grade
Brownies from Troop 441 in Centerville, received
the Lehava Award from the National Jewish Girl
Scout Committee.
WHAT CAN A SENIOR GIRL SCOUT AND 10 BROWNIE
GIRL SCOUTS DO FOR THE US MILITARY?
Make them smile that's
what!
Senior Girl Scout, Amanda
Woolums, and 3rd Grade Brownie Troop 1995 along
with "The Angel Lady" strived to do that very
thing this year with Girl Scout Cookies, cards
of encouragement and angels. Ms. Woolums
organized a project to send Girl Scout cookies
to our US Troops in Iraq; she originated the
idea by making arrangements to have "a few
boxes" of cookies shipped by the Marines to the
troops.
Ms. Woolums and Troop 1995 sold
"Gift of Caring Cookies" at their cookie booth
sales, the "Angel Lady" came on board there. She
asked if she could make angels for the troops,
reminders that we are praying for them here at
home, to carry in their vehicles.
Then
she went a step further, she started recruiting
families to buy cookies by the case instead of
by the box. The project snowballed into 168
boxes of cookies. One young lady's hopes to send
a few boxes of cookies to a couple of service
people, has turned into a wonderful "Gift of
Caring".
We would like to thank
OfficeMax for donating mailing labels to put
good wishes on each box of cookies. And also
Click Camera for donating photos of the girls
doing the project to go with the cards the girls
have made to accompany each box. Yes, one senior
Girl Scout and 10 little Brownie Girl Scouts can
make a difference in the life of a soldier.
Part of the Girl Scout Promise is to serve
God and my country, to help others at all times
and to live by the Girl Scout Law. These girls
demonstrated the Girl Scout Promise and of being
true caring leaders in their community.
BROWNIES HAVE a COSMIC ADVENTURE
On April 1, 2006, Graham High School students
sponsored a "There's No Fooling - YOU can be a
Rocket Scientist" event at Graham High School.
We had 25 Brownies from the Champaign County
Service Unit in attendance, as well as about 30
parents and siblings!! The girls LOVED it and
did a GREAT job!! Attached to this email and the
following email, are photos from the
event...high school students led the Brownie
Girl Scouts in observing lunar samples( REAL
MOON ROCKS), constructing and launching rockets,
learning about life in space, eating like an
astronaut, conducting a chemical reaction in a
student glove box, playing a planets game and
getting tattoed"! they earned an out of
council 'Cosmic Adventures"
Try-It!! It was a wonderful
opportunity to provide space outreach to the
aspiring scientists in our community!!
