Letter from the CEO |
|
|
Greetings,
March always blows in with a flurry here at
Buckeye Trails and we fondly refer to it as our
own "March Madness". It really is a very
exciting month for Girl Scouts with the kick off
of our 95th anniversary celebration in conjunction
with the beginning of Girl Scout week on March
11th. The theme this year is Girl
Scouts Make the World a Better Place and
each of us is being challenged to do something
special during this week that contributes to this
important effort.
In the meantime, we are all busy getting ready
for Kathy Cloninger's, CEO of GSUSA, visit to our
Council. She will be our featured speaker at
our annual Hall of Fame/WINGS luncheon on Friday,
March 9th and the Gold and Silver and scholarship
awards ceremony that evening. Kathy will join
Jacquie Powell, board chair and me in
congratulating Hall of Fame honorees Carolee
Grehan, Linda Loxley, Sandy Skinn, Debbie Watts
and Karen Wendeln. It will also be the first
time ever that the girls will be recognized for
their Gold and Silver awards and scholarships by
our National CEO. It makes me so proud that
we have this wonderful opportunity to showcase the
achievements of so many of our special Girl
Scouts. Thanks to the parents, leaders,
special friends and mentors for all your support
and commitment to assure the girls reached their
goal.
Fortunately, we were blessed with a little bit
of the luck of the Irish during the week of cookie
delivery! Even with snow piled high all
around us, we enjoyed sunshine and warmer
temperatures as we unloaded all of the semi-trucks
full of cookies. It is still amazing to me
that this operation works so well. Again, a
huge thank you to everyone who helped make this
happen. Early results predict another
successful cookie sale!
Girl Scouts of Buckeye Trails Council is truly
fulfilling the mission Girl Scouting builds girls
of courage, confidence and character, who make the
world a better place.
Warm regards,
Ann | |

Celebrating 95 years |
|
Girl Scouts across the country
will be joining together this year to celebrate 95
years of Girl Scouting!
The 100th anniversary of Girl Scouting is only
a few years away but there's no need to wait to
commemorate our illustrious history when we can
celebrate the Girl Scouts 95th Anniversary this
March. Girl Scouts 95th Anniversary
promises to be fantastic, kicking off with a
nationwide celebration: Girl Scouts Make the
World a Better Place Week.
During Girl Scout Week, March 11 – 17th, Girl
Scouts across the country will take part in
community service activities and good deeds of
their choosing. As individuals and in troops
or other groupings, Girl Scouts, their family
members and friends will carry out meaningful
activities that are keenly aligned with the Girl
Scout mission. The possibilities are endless,
and everyone can participate.
Whatever project you choose to do, whether you
are a Girl Scout, alumna, volunteer, or friend,
please let
us know that you are participating in Girl
Scouts Make the World a Better Place Week. We want
to let everyone know that Girl Scouts make a
difference!
When Girl Scouts meet with Congressional
members in June 2007 for Girl Scouts Advocacy Day,
they will share the good news of how Girl Scouts
are making the world a better
place! Together, Girl Scouts will demonstrate
as a unified Movement that taking action through
community service is a defining characteristic of
true leadership. We invite everyone to join
in Girl Scouts Make the World a Better Place
Week.
All who participate will be eligible to
purchase a special Girl Scouts Make the World a
Better Place patch and pin available for purchase
from our Boutique for Girls. These are available
to all participants, including alumnae! You don't
have to be a currently registered Girl Scout.
Tell
us your Troop or Service Unit plan.
Still Singing After All These Years

How Passionate are YOU about Girl Scouts for
Every Girl?
In August 2006, Girl Scouts of Buckeye Trails
Council affirmed its commitment to
promoting and supporting diversity by
offering a special training at the Fall Kickoff
Cluster. Now we are taking it to the next
level! A new course to certify Diversity
Facilitators is being created by Dr. Karen
Townsend, and will be offered this
July. Volunteers will be asked to deliver the
program to service units across the
council. If you are interested in becoming a
Diversity Facilitator, please contact Kristy Creel
