THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT
Dear Friends,
We are approaching the
wonderful holiday season, a time of celebration,
when we gather with our family and friends to give
thanks for our many blessings and share our
appreciation for each other. The staff and
board of Girl Scouts of Buckeye Trails would like
each of you to know how much we appreciate your
support. Because of your dedication and
commitment to all of the 16,000 girls we serve,
you have made this world a better place. We
send you a big thank you and look forward to
working with you as we plan another exciting year
of Girl Scouting. Happy Holidays to you and
your family.
Warm regards, Ann Granger, CEO
Actions of the Board
Troop Treasury Policy
adopted by the Board of Directors November 15,
2005
It will be the policy of Girl Scouts of Buckeye
Trails to close any and all Troop Treasuries of
troops that have been inactive or have
dissolved. Money will be held for a maximum
of 18 months, allowing for a new troop to be
formed. If this does not occur, funds will
be transferred to the General Operating fund of
the Council and the account will be closed.
Buckeye Retired
With the success of this new way of
communicating all the latest news and information,
the Buckeye newsletter has been retired.
Please use the link in the footer of this
newsletter to encourage all of your Girl Scout
friends and contacts to register to receive the
e-Newsletter each
month. Communicating program
opportunities to all of our girls will continue to
be a high priority! The next issue of the Just
Us Girls and Totally You program
guides are due to be in mailboxes the first week
of February and will cover program opportunities
from March through August 2006.
2006 Annual WINGS Luncheon
Mark your calendar for our annual birthday
luncheon, Friday, March 10. Because of our urban
camp construction, this year it will be held at
Grace United Methodist Church on the corner of
Salem and Harvard Avenues.
We will honor
select alumnae by inducting them into our Hall of
Fame. These individuals have made an impact on
Girl Scouting in our geographic area from 1921 -
2005 or have achieved significant success as an
adult and credit participation in Girl Scouts as
one of the factors that contributed to her/his
achievement.
Look for more
information about this annual event on our
website or contact Shirley Whitacre at

PRESIDENT'S VOLUNTEER SERVICE AWARD
Americans of all ages; individuals, families
and groups, are answering the President's call
to service by making a difference in their
communities. The President's Volunteer Service
Award is a Presidential recognition program for
all Americans of all ages, who contribute a
significant amount of time to volunteer service.
The program recognizes individuals, families,and
groups that have achieved a certain standard -
measured by the number of hours served over a
12-month period.
Through Girl Scouts, the eight girls and
leader of Troop 976 volunteered over 500 hours
in the past year! The Montgomery County Animal
Shelter, Women's Wellness Walk, and St. Peter's
Parish are just some of the organizations that
benefited from these girls' willingness to get
involved. Receiving the awards were:
BRONZE (volunteering over 50 hours):
Teresa Gilbert, Acacia Naughton and Stacey
Jamieson. SILVER (volunteering over 75
hours): Alex Naughton and Ellen
Carter.

UPDATE ON URBAN CAMP FACILITY
The construction of the new building is
underway. Despite some delays, the plan is
to have the building completed and occupied by
September 1, 2006. The trees that were
cleared from the site have been sawed and are
currently being kiln dried so the lumber can be
used for doors and trim. The scrap lumber
has been hauled to our camps to be used for
firewood. We are constructing this facility
under the guidelines of LEEDS which requires that
we preserve the environment and use materials and
processes that are supporting our eco-systems.
Program Opportunities
Thanks to our architectural firm Lorenz and
Williams and contractor Fender Construction and
their respective staff, our Girl Scouts have
experienced firsthand the sawmill operation, how
to make and read architectural drawings, and what
it takes to finish concrete. We are pleased
so many girls and their families have participated
in these exciting demonstrations. Many more
opportunities are being planned as the building
progresses and we hope that this will open the
girls' eyes to new career opportunities.
Next Steps
The framing of the building is scheduled to
begin in about a month. This will help us
all have a better visual idea of the size and
lay-out of the new facility. As the
construction proceeds, the fun continues with the
selection of light fixtures, floor finishes, paint
colors and furnishings. When complete, there
will be outside decks for gathering, a green grass
roof for star gazing, an outdoor screened meeting
area, and an indoor climbing wall. Can you
imagine how much fun this "WOW" place will be for
our Girl Scouts?
Donor Wall
Some of the latest developments for the new
Urban Camp Site include plans for a stained glass
wall recognizing all those who have contributed to
the Capital Campaign for the construction of this
facility. Watch for more information on this
creative project that will give girls the
opportunity to learn a new skill and allow future
generations of Girl Scouts to enjoy the beauty of
giving.
Rolling Hills
Exciting news - coming to Rolling Hills in 2006
- plans for the building of a cabin
near the new challenge course at Rolling Hills.
This facility will be heated for winter use with
flush toilets and showers.
Whip-Poor-Will
A new bath/shower house facility at
Whip-Poor-Will is planned for the coming
year. We hope to begin this project by late
spring.
