Fall Greetings from our new facility,
I think one of our staff members's had the
right idea…"we should all get a tee shirt that
says WE SURVIVED THE MOVE!" Needless to say, the
past two weeks have been quite challenging for all
of us. Packing, getting rid of stuff, having
the computers and phones unplugged was a bit
unsettling. It was also about moving out of
the home of Buckeye Trails that we have lived in
for the past twenty years.
Leaving home evoked all kinds of memories and
emotions. We found old craft materials that
reminded us of the many different programs we had
hosted. There were pictures and programs from
the Gold and Silver ceremonies and the Hall of
Fame luncheons. There were the many different
tee shirts that reminded us of the themes of all
of the cookie sales. But mostly, it was
remembering all of the good times the Girl Scouts
have enjoyed in "the house that cookies
built". It was now time to walk across the
parking lot and begin a new future for our Girl
Scouts.
We are now settling in to our
beautiful new home and getting familiar with an
environment that is open, airy and very
colorful! We can't wait for the girls to try
out the climbing wall, to star gazing on the roof,
prepare a healthy snack in their new kitchen, or
just spend some quality time with their
friends. There will be new classes on all
kinds of topics and the opportunity for all night
sleep-ins. It is truly the WOW place that the
girls having been dreaming about.
The support and commitment of so many wonderful
volunteers, staff and friends have made this a
dream come true. The girls will be hosting a
Holiday
Craft Bazaar and Open House the weekend of
December 2 & 3 that they would love for you to
attend so they can personally thank you for your
generosity. We have been truly
blessed.
As the Thanksgiving holidays are
approaching it is time to pause and appreciate
each other. May the bounty of the season fill
your heart and home and may you share it with
those in need.
Warm regards,
Ann Granger,

Future of Girl Scouts!
Have you heard? In response to member requests,
Girl Scouts of the USA is renewing our focus on

girls care about (Take Action).
Over the next few years, we will be developing
new program resources for print and the web, as
well as new badges and awards for Girl Scouts of
all ages! But to create a fresh and compelling
leadership experience for girls that is built on
the best of our traditions, we need to draw from
your experiences. So join the national team and
send us your best. That way, we'll know what's
already working for our councils as we begin to

GEMS participate in World Water Day
As preparation for World Water Monitoring Day
on October 18, seventeen Girl Scouts from GEMS
(Girls Enjoying Math and Science) Troop 3826 of
Huber Heights participated in water monitoring
activities. On Thursday, October 5, they were
testing the water of the Great Miami River. The
GEMS Club, with help from the Miami Conservancy
District, gained first-hand experience with water
quality monitoring assessments, designed to be a
basic health screening for the Miami River
watershed. The result of their testing showed the
river to be healthy.
World Water Monitoring Day is an international
education and outreach program that builds public
awareness and involvement in protecting water
resources around the world by engaging citizens to
conduct basic monitoring of their local water
bodies. The girls joined thousands of other
volunteers across the world to sample water
quality and report their findings as part of the
global effort.
The Girl Scout Troop of 6th graders from
Weisenborn Middle School in Huber Heights is led
by Mr. John Betts and assisted by Mrs. Beth
Hill. The goal of the troop is to promote
math and science learning for girls. See

New Carlisle Girl Scouts Make the World A
Better Place
Girl Scout Troop 720 from Honey Creek Service
Unit received their Bronze Award. As a
group, they painted a storage garage in Smith
Park in New Carlisle. They painted the
garage and then put murals on all four
sides.
Rick Lowrey, the mayor of
New Carlisle came out to present each of the
girls with their award. The girls designed
the murals, went to a city council meeting to
ask permission to paint the garage, primered the
building, painted it and then painted the murals
on. They even asked for the community's
help by placing handprints on the building to
represent a rainbow ending at a pot of
gold. The Bronze Award recipients from
Troop 720 are: Kelsey Adams, Danielle
Clucas, Karla Kosey, Morgan Mumma, Taylor Scott,
Linay Stryker and Marie Wile. See

COMFORT ITEMS BEING COLLECTED FOR SOLDIERS
IN IRAQ
This summer girls in Troop 943 were busy
cutting up old blue jeans and making message
quilts to be sent to injured soldiers in Iraq.
Since then, the project has grown and other
troops and service units are getting involved!
We have formed a partnership with an Army Medic
from our area who will be accepting the
donations in Iraq and distributing them to the
soldiers.
We will be collecting items at the council
office beginning through November 18 and
packing them to be shipped with the help of
Troop 943. Would you like to help? Contact Mary
Dietz at the council. Here
