WE'RE ON THE MOVE

Greetings,

Our fall season has arrived which means the start of a new Girl Scout year…and what an exciting year it will be for Buckeye Trails.

We are just two weeks out from making the move into our new building.  Staff has been busy cleaning out old files and lockers and literally downsizing so they will be ready for the movers.  Beginning the week of October 16th, we will start packing and preparing ourselves for this task.  During the week of October 23rd, we will have limited business going on while our computer and phone systems are being transferred and the Boutique for Girls is being set-up for the Grand Opening.  We ask for your patience and understanding and promise that we will re-open with the best customer service and facility in Dayton!

On Wednesday, October 25th beginning at 10:00 a.m. GSBTC will host its first ever auction.  Thanks to the assistance of new board member Karen Huelsman, you will have the opportunity to purchase office items that we will not be taking with us to the new building.  Please check out our website beginning October 9th to see what will be on sale.  Our site will have a link to the auctioneer's website for more details.  If you plan on participating please note that the items will need to be removed the day of the sale.

Finally, I would like to thank all the girls, troop leaders, staff and the many volunteers that helped make 2005-06 a very successful year.  Hope all of you will join us again for what promises to be an eventful year for Girl Scouts.

Warm regards,

Ann Granger, CEO

CALLING ALL VOLUNTEERS! Help us Shape the Future of Girl Scouts!

Have you heard? In response to member requests, Girl Scouts of the USA is renewing our focus on leadership development. Our new leadership program ties personal growth (Discover) to social skills like team-building and conflict resolution (Connect) to identifying and solving problems that girls care about (Take Action).

Over the next few years, we will be developing new program resources for print and the web, as well as new badges and awards for Girl Scouts of all ages! But to create a fresh and compelling leadership experience for girls that is built on the best of our traditions, we need to draw from your experiences. So join the national team and send us your best. That way, we'll know what's already working for our councils as we begin to develop new materials. Here's how….

Pampered Camper A Rousing Success

Two weeks ago 235 women and 50 facilitators came together at Camp Whip-Poor-Will for our fifth annual adult fundraiser Pampered Camper. The weekend was filled with activities from Challenge Course, trail riding, yoga, Masterful Gardening, Belly Dancing, microwave scarf-making, kickboxing, knitting, aromatherapy hand scrubs, outdoor cooking, Up and Running bra and shoe fittings and Dorothy Lane Market Chef Carrie Walters Cooking Class.  There was truly something for everyone.  The evening offered a delicious catered dinner, campfire songs, s'mores and dancing.  Most of the women chose the overnight option to enjoy more fun activities Sunday morning.  After a full breakfast the Amazing Race was off with winners Barb and Cecilia Bidigare leading the way.

We appreciate all our sponsors for this year's Pampered Camper, especially our lead sponsors:  Paula J. MacIlwaine: Award Women Making A Difference of the Dayton Foundation, National City Bank, Sebaly Shillito + Dyer, Vectren Energy, Wal-Mart, Faruki, Ireland & Cox and Miller Valentine Walsh Fund .  With their financial assistance and the dedicated work of the committee, Pampered Camper raised more than $28,000 for financial scholarships for membership fees, program fees, day camp and resident camp opportunities.  Additionally, we had several women express interest in becoming facilitators for the Challenge Course and volunteers for girl programming.   These are all win-win opportunities for the Girl Scouts of Buckeye Trails Council.

This year's event was sold out by the end of Early Bird Registration on August 15, and we expect 2007 Pampered Camper to sell out even quicker.  We have already begun gearing up for next year's Pampered Camper.

Mark your calendars for Saturday, September 15, 2007

If you are interested in receiving more information about Pampered Camper, sponsoring financial assistance or serving on the committee, please email toni_shade@btgirlscouts.org or call (937) 279-6543.

COMFORT ITEMS BEING COLLECTED FOR SOLDIERS IN IRAQ

This summer girls in Troop 943 were busy cutting up old blue jeans and making message quilts to be sent to injured soldiers in Iraq. Since then, the project has grown and other troops and service units are getting involved! We have formed a partnership with an Army Medic from our area who will be accepting the donations in Iraq and distributing them to the soldiers.

We will be collecting items at the council office beginning October 31 through November 10 (no earlier due to our move please) and packing them to be shipped with the help of Troop 943. Would you like to help? Contact Mary Dietz at the council. Here is a list of items needed…..
