Girl Scout Camping
Girl Scouts enjoy progressive camping experiences beginning with our youngest members spending a day at camp. As the girls gain experience there are many types of camping opportunities for them to explore.
Summer Camp at Whip-Poor-Will
Each summer girls come to camp looking for fun and adventure. Summer Camp provides a wonderful opportunity for them to meet new friends, gain independence, enjoy the outdoors, have fun and make memories to last a lifetime.
Troop Camping
Troop/Group camping is for Girl Scout groups that are experienced in outdoor activities, have learned and practiced outdoor skills, have taken short hikes, and have cooked several meals out-of-doors. Girls and their leaders plan and carry out these activities, as well as the actual camping experience.
When a group goes camping, the leader or other adult working with the group must be a trained camp leader. An adult receives training by participating in a group camping certification course. Troop/Group camp training MUST be taken before the group plans a trip, (approximately 4-6 months before the camping trip.) An adult who is currently certified in first aid and CPR is required to accompany a group while camping.
Day Camp
Day camp is for Girl Scouts of all ages, both girls and adults, and is available during the summer at locations throughout the Council. Girls may register as individuals. The girls share a variety of activities with day camp adult volunteers. The council conducts Day Camp at the Urban Campus. Additional day camps are run by volunteers in local Service Units.
Our Camps
The council maintains five outstanding program facilities which vary from platform tents to dormitory-style buildings.
