Girl Scouts exist for girls, but
it exists because of volunteers. By giving your time and talent,
you can make it possible for girls to build character and skills
for success in the real world. Research shows the influence one
caring adult has on a child will last a lifetime. No matter what
your interests, age, or amount of time you can offer, Girl
Scouts needs your help to provide opportunities for girls to
grow strong. We will match your interests with the needs of
girls, and work around your busy schedule. No experience is
necessary to volunteer - training is provided for all volunteer
positions.

Be a Leader!
Troop/Group Leader: Have an
immediate impact on the lives of girls in your community by
serving as a role model, mentor, friend and leader. You can
develop a variety of skills through training, and explore new
adventures. If you enjoy working with youth and promoting strong
spirits in today’s young women, this is the role for you!
Assistant Troop/Group Leader:
One or more assistant leaders allow for more safety, activities
and fun for girls! Your participation helps keep Girl Scouting
available for all girls who are interested – and enriches your
leadership skills at the same time.
Additional Volunteer Opportunities:
Service Unit Manager:
Support Girl Scout troop leaders in your geographic area. In
partnership with your service team, you will help to develop a
plan to recruit and develop leaders, meet membership and Family
Partnership goals and ensure our girl members grow to become
leaders through quality programming in your area.
Service Unit Registrar:
A service team member in a specific geographic area who
processes membership forms of girls and adults in that service
unit. These forms then go to the Council for submission to
GSUSA.
Service Unit Financial Consultant:
Oversees the finances of the service unit and monitors troop
finances.
Council Trainer: Educates
and supports leaders in a wide variety of areas – from troop
leadership to camping skills to songs and games. You can enhance
your own abilities while supporting volunteers as they learn
about Girl Scouting. Lead workshops in your geographical area
that suit your schedule and interests. Trainers are needed for
Girl Scout FUNdamentals, Age Level Training, CPR/First Aid, and
Camp Certification.
Service Unit Membership Recruiter:
Works with the Service Team to ensure that every girl within the
assigned Service Unit had the opportunity to participate in Girl
Scouting, by recruiting and placing girls and adults in
troops/groups that meet their needs.
Troop Cookie Consultant:
The troop cookie consultant coordinates the annual cookie sale
within their troop to ensure all girls have the opportunity to
grow as a result of participating in the sale. The troop cookie
consultant must attend troop cookie consultant training provided
by their service unit cookie consultant, regional product sales
manager, or online for experienced troop cookie consultants.
Other responsibilities include collecting permission slips from
parents/guardians of girls participating in the cookie sale,
receiving cookie sale money and maintaining financial
responsibility for all monies turned in to you, managing pick-up
and distribution of troop cookies and coordinating distribution
of girl incentives.
Family Partnership Chair:
The family partnership chair
will collaborate with the fund development specialist, all service team
members and troop leaders to create and carry out a comprehensive,
year-round family partnership campaign plan for their service unit to ensure
all volunteers and parents have the opportunity to contribute to the
campaign and ensure the girls have the support and resources they need to
actively participate in the program.
Service Unit Program Consultant:
The program consultant
provides program assistance and support to Girl Scout volunteers, especially
troop leaders, in order to ensure the Girl Scout program is effectively
delivered to meet the needs and interests of girls and to support girls’
growth towards the council goals. This includes being a resource, addressing
girl related issues, and facilitating networking and enrichment
opportunities.
Service Unit Training Consultant:
The training consultant
assists Girl Scout volunteers by facilitating follow-up discussions to
required training, facilitating enrichments opportunities, and assessing
training needs of the service unit that will enhance the delivery of the
Girl Scout program. The training consultant also reinforces the six month
training policy and helps to ensure training compliance of the volunteers
within the service unit by reviewing training history and assisting in
registering for courses.
Service Unit Cookie Consultant:
The cookie consultant
coordinates the annual cookie sale within the service unit to ensure all
girls have the opportunity to grow as a result of participating in the sale.
The cookie consultant trains troop cookie managers to prepare them for the
sale and provides troops with information and program support regarding the
sale. Other responsibilities include problem solving with troop cookie
managers and leaders, accepting the delivery of wards and distributing awards
to troops.
Service Unit Event Chair:
Coordinate service unit events ensuring girls are
involved in the planning and implementation.
New Leader Consultant:
The new leader consultant
works closely with the program consultant to ensure new leaders feel
supported in the service unit and are prepared to deliver the Girl Scout
program. The new leader consultant manages the mentor process by recruiting,
matching mentors with new leaders, and ensuring new leaders are oriented to
the service unit.
Service Unit Communications Consultant: The communication consultant
will ensure information is shared regarding Girl Scouting with the community
including information to local newspapers, and community groups. The
communication consultant is also responsible for ensuring information is
distributed within the service unit through a variety of methods including
e-mail and service unit websites.
Service Unit Recognitions Chair:
Ensures service unit participates in Council sponsored
and GSUSA recognitions by educating volunteers on awards,
soliciting nominations and completing appropriate paperwork. The
recognitions chair also coordinates recognitions at the service
unit level on a year round basis for troop leaders,
administrative volunteers, and girls.
Service Unit Fall Product Sales Consultant:
The fall product consultant coordinates the sale in the
service unit, provides programmatic support regarding the sale to troop
leaders and distributes awards to troops.
