COURSE DESCRIPTION

Camping is a favorite activity and tradition in Girl Scouts.  It is important that an adult has the knowledge and skills necessary to make a troop camping experience safe, fun and educational. This course will help participants to relate the outdoor experience to the Council Goals, plan, implement and evaluate a camping trip with girls, understand the safety standards and guidelines for camping and related outdoor activities, and develop skills to be used and taught to girls ensuring a positive, fun and safe outdoor experience.

This course has a fee of $15 that must accompany the registration form.

AUDIENCE

Troop leaders, co-leaders and other registered adults who are participating in a troop out-of-doors experience.  Only one adult per troop is required to complete this training, however we encourage all adult volunteers working in the out-of-doors to attend.

HOW CAMP CERTIFICATION TRAINING IS OFFERED

This training is offered with two options for delivery:

Option I:  A planning session with an overnight at camp in a one time session.   A list of camp supplies needed and instructions will be mailed one week prior to the training to each participant.

Option II:   A 4-hour planning session without an overnight at camp. Instead of spending the night at camp, participants will spend the day (with an eight hour skills session) at camp. Participants must attend both sessions to receive credit for the course.

Troop Camp Training Test Out:  This option is available to volunteers who have bee certified in troop camp training from another council or have extensive (3-years or more) camping experience as an adult with Girl Scouts.  There are two parts to this test out:  1. A written exam.   2.  A verbal skills test.  Participants choosing this option must pass with an 85% score or higher.  If a participant does not pass this option, then they will need to take the full course.

REGISTRATION
