Welcome Prospective Volunteer
We are thrilled that you have decided to volunteer and serve our girls. In order to make the application process as easy as possible, the Volunteer Development Department has put together a list of procedures that need to be followed in order to make sure the application process flows smoothly. The steps from this point are very simple.
Step One - Application, References and Background Check
The first step to becoming a volunteer is to complete the volunteer application process, which consists of the following tasks:
-
Fill out the application COMPLETELY. Download the application to your computer and send completed application to Volunteer Development Department, Girl Scouts of Buckeye Trails Council, 450 Shoup Mill Road, Dayton, OH 45415. SIGNATURE MUST BE INCLUDED. Application - choose "save" to your computer.
-
Print three personal reference forms and give them to three people NOT related to you and have them complete the reference as soon as possible. Mail any references you may receive back from your contacts to the council asap. Your references can mail the form or FAX to 937-275-1147.
-
Complete the criminal background check procedure.
The Volunteer Development Department should be able to complete the volunteer application process within 10 days, provided that it has all of the materials. If you do not hear something from us within two weeks, please contact us.
There shall be no discrimination against an otherwise qualified adult volunteer by reason of disability, age, race, color, ethnicity, sex, creed, national origin, citizenship, or socioeconomic status.
If your application is approved, you will receive an official letter of appointment to the position for which you applied.
Until appointed, volunteers should not serve in the position for which they applied. For example, a volunteer applying as a troop leader may not begin meeting with her troop as the leader, until approved for the position.
Step Two - Register as a Member of Girl Scouts
The second step to becoming a volunteer with this council is to register as a Girl Scout member. Please contact your Service Unit volunteer or the Girl Scout Council for assistance with registration. All appointed volunteers must become Girl Scout members and agree to accept the Girl Scout Promise and Law.
Step Three - Complete the first required training courses.
Girl Scout Basics ABC's training and the appropriate program age level course is mandatory for persons appointed to a leadership position with girls (registered as 01, 02).
The leader, assistant leader, co-leader/advisor,assistant advisor, or co-advisor) has 60 days from approval to complete the required training.
