On June 5th, Huber Heights Girl Scouts celebrated their year’s accomplishments through a Multi-Level Bridging & Awards Ceremony.  The ceremony began by recognizing those Girl Scouts who contributed in two Service Unit sponsored community service projects.

Mrs. Tami Jorgensen, Huber Heights Girl Scout Service Unit Manager, presented awards to the Girl Scouts who took part in delivering treats to the elderly population at the Biltmore residency, downtown Dayton – during the months of December 2009 and February 2010.

Mrs. Kathy Demers, Assistant Superintendent for HHCS, presented awards to the Girl Scouts who contributed their time and effort to support the HHCS Literacy Initiative, from January to May 2010.

Bridging award activities are designed to emphasize the continuity of one Girl Scout program, and to introduce girls within each age level to what lies ahead.  Bridging ceremonies gained in popularity when the Bridge to Junior Girl Scouts award was introduced in 1977.  Brownie Girl Scouts could earn the award while they prepared to “fly-up” to Junior Girl Scouts.  Today, the concept of bridging in Girl Scouts is expanded.  Bridges can be formed not only between different age groups, but between troops of different neighborhoods or councils.  Girls can build bridges anywhere, anytime, and cross them to wider understanding and growth.

The following troops and Girl Scouts participated in the ceremony.  All Daisy Girl Scouts were bridged to Brownie level.  All Brownie Girl Scouts were bridged to Junior level.

Program Consultant, Stacey Smith, organized the event with the help from leaders: Shannon Coleman, Rachel Earnest, Missy Greene, Sheryl Jackson, Kellie Jobe, and Michele Jones.  Huber Heights’ Scouts have a lot of talent and creativity amongst these leaders and it shined through on this day!  I really appreciated all their effort,” said Stacey Smith.

Girl Scouting builds girls of courage, confidence, and character, who make the world a better place.
