2010 Girl
Scout Cookie Sale A Success
After several months of excitement, girl planning, and lots of hard
work, the 2010 Girl Scout Cookie Sale has come to a close.
Troops in Girl Scouts of Western Ohio really stepped up this year,
defying snow, rain, and wind to accomplish their goals and to
provide the public with the cookies they love.
We would like to thank all of our volunteers for their dedication
and hard work throughout the sale. Girl Scouts of Western Ohio
sold 3,996,026 boxes of cookies. Compared to last years sale,
the number of participating girls was up by one percent and the
number of participating troops was up three percent. Over 30 service
units reached or surpassed their selling goal.
Girl Scouts also showed dedication to their communities and to their
country by donating over 55,000 boxes to Cookie Share. These cookies
were donated to United States military troops and other local
charities.
Our special efforts to partner with the American Red Cross to
support disaster relief in Haiti were also a success. Girl Scouts of
Western Ohio pledged to donate $1 for every case of cookies picked
up by troops at cookie cupboards between February 19 and March 21,
2010. This resulted in a $34,737 contribution to the American Red
Cross International Disaster Response Fund, earmarked for Haiti
disaster relief. Regional donations to local American Red Cross
organizations are:
Maumee Valley $3,772
Appleseed Ridge $1,920
Buckeye Trails $14,893
Great Rivers $14,152
For over 90 years the
Girl Scout Cookie Sale has helped girls learn valuable
entrepreneurial and life skills such as goal setting, working as a
team, and money management. Proceeds from the cookie sale are used
to benefit local Girl Scouts, helping them pay for summer camp
experiences, purchase earned recognitions, and much more. The
sale also funds Girl Scout program activities and initiatives
throughout the year and ensures that Girl Scouting is available to
any girl who wishes to participate.
Girl Scouts of Western Ohio staff would like to thank the community,
our volunteers, and all of our hard working Girl Scouts for making
this years cookie sale a success.
