SUCCESS STORIES
I n
April 2010, a token of appreciation was presented to Girl Scout
Troop 31335 on behalf of the U.S. Army by Harry and Jane Moresi of
YSI Incorporated, whose son currently serves in the U.S. Army.
During the 2009 Girl Scout Cookie Sale, Troop 31335 sent over 100
boxes of Girl Scout Cookies to soldiers in Iraq. The
soldiers shared the cookies with Iraqi children in the area of Mosul, Iraq, where the soldiers are
stationed. Mr. and Mrs. Moresi extended the deep gratitude of
their son, Andrew, and his Battalion for the hard work and
generosity of the members of Troop 31335. Congratulations on your
accomplishments!
Girl
Scout Troop 32191 recently participated in the St.
Paris Memorial Day Ceremony. Members of the troop raised the flag at Harmon Park while Graham Band played the National
Anthem. After, they walked to Evergreen Cemetery. The girls laid flowers on the
graves of all veterans "thanking" them for their sacrifices and
service.
Girl
Scout Troop 49236 hosted a dog show at Schappacher
Park in Deerfield Township, Saturday, May 1, 2010. The show included
competitions such as Looks Most Like Owner, Frisbee Catch, Biggest
Bark, and more. The Girl Scout Juniors organized the show for their
Girl Scout Bronze Award. The money raised from the dog show -
totaling $300 - will be used to buy supplies for animal shelters.
Troop 48575 of the Sunset Service
Unit hosted a World Thinking Day event the weekend of February 20,
2010. Troops participated representing countries such as France,
Germany, Italy, United Kingdom, Australia and Mexico. The host Troop
was the United Nations, making sure all countries got along. Girl
Scouts shared food, facts and S.W.A.P.S. (Special Whatchamacallits
Affectionately Pinned Somewhere). Some troops were able to wear the
customary dress; others provided collected items from their country.
Girl Scout levels ranged from Girl Scout Daisies to Girl Scout

Brownie Troop 40975 of the Lakota Wings Service
Unit along with members of their families volunteered this past
weekend at A Child's Hope International's Kids against Hunger in
Blue Ash, Ohio. In two, hours, approximately 200 volunteers packaged
a record-setting 57,256 meal bags which will be shipped to Haiti
very soon.
In the middle of three February snow storms that hit the Miami
Valley within a week, Vandalia snow plow truck drivers received a
surprise break from its 16-hour workday with care packages from
Girl Scout Troop 31132. The girls put together 24
care packages of bottled water, coffee and hot chocolate mix and
cups, peanuts, beef jerky, Hershey kisses, Valentines, and even toy
cars. The 20 public works employees who received the packages were
touched by these kind gifts.
St. Veronica School’s Girl Scout Troop 40423
cheered on the Xavier University women’s basketball team as they
crushed the Dayton Flyers at Cintas Center on January 30. The fourth
graders were invited to attend the game as part of Cintas
Corporation’s “Team Spirit” program. One lucky Girl Scout, Kelly
Mathis, was randomly selected from the troop to participate in a
"Shoot for the Spirit" scholarship competition during halftime. She
tried her luck at free throws — and made a basket. Kelly won a
$1,000 scholarship for her efforts. The rest of the troop marched
onto the court with the cheerleaders during the second half. It was
quite a memorable experience that showed the girls they could be
leaders anywhere — on the court, at school, and in life.
In
2008 Peach Norman Owen collected over 300 coats and sweatshirts;
donating them to the St. Vincent de Paul Society. In 2009,
Peach expanded her efforts, while working on her Girl Scout Silver
Award. Peach wanted to provide coats to residents in Clermont
County, where she lives. She increased her collection sources by
five more organizations. Peach counted, sorted and delivered
the donations. She organized the distribution sites and assisted
children and adults as they select their coats. Peach collected more
than 730 coats and sweatshirts. On February 3, 2010, the Stonelick
Township Board of Trustees in Owensville, Clermont County, presented
Peach with their "Outstanding Citizen Award." Congratulations Peach!
