 Spread the Word Patch

The “Spread the Word” patch activity is designed for troops who love the Girl Scout organization so much they want to share their experiences with non-Girl Scouts. If your troop believes that Girl Scouts is more than cookies and camp, now they can earn a patch by sharing their experiences to encourage others to join. Help your troop take the lead and invite other girls to join in on the fun!

Choose three or more of the following:

  • Create posters or a display about Girl Scouts and ask permission to display it at your school, church, library or other community venue.
Ex: Display could promote September membership.
  • Participate in a local fair, parade or other community event where you hand out information about Girl Scouting. (Ex: School Recruitment Night)
  • Write an article for your school or community newspaper about Girl Scouts or an upcoming Girl Scout event that non-Girl Scouts can attend.
  • Learn five interesting facts about Girl Scouts; share these facts with 10 people who are not in Girl Scouts either in person, by phone or through email. (Ask your parent or guardian to tell you two or three ways they think Girl Scouts has benefited you and share that too.)
  • Create an informational flyer about Girl Scouts and make a copy for every home on your block. With adult supervision, deliver the flyers to each house. (Remind girls to use their manners.)
  • If your community has a public access television channel, create a short video about Girl Scouts and ask them to play it on the channel. Ask if your troop can be interviewed about how girls and adults can benefit from Girl Scouting.
  • Arrange with your principal or classroom teacher to have a Girl Scout school day, wear uniforms, make posters and perform a skit about Girl Scouts. A great time to do this would be in September when new Girl Scout troops are forming.

Be sure to include regional office’s phone numbers, Girl Scouts of Western Ohio web address on all flyers, posters and banners, and the Girl Scout and United Way logos. The logos are available at www.girlscoutsofwesternohio.org.

Write up a short paragraph or two about what your troop did; feel free to include any pictures. Send this in with your evaluation/patch order so we can recognize your troop for your participation.

Girl Scouting builds girls of courage, confidence, and character, who make the world a better place.
