Journey’s Highlight
It is
time for our third month of highlighting the Girl Scout
Journeys. This month we will look at the books available
for Girl Scout Cadettes. This section is designed to
provide you with additional knowledge and talking points
when promoting them at the trainings you facilitate.

This Month:
-
Both current
Girl Scout Cadette
Journey series
are designed so that the girls Discover
themselves and what makes them unique,
Connect with one another while learning
how to work together, and Take Action
through participation in a service
project in their community.
-
The girls can earn
all or one of the following
recognitions:
From It’s Your World—Change It!,
aMAZE,
Interact Award, Diplomat Award, and
Peacemaker Award
-
When you go on this
journey, you’ll find
your way through the
twists and turns of
relationships, learning
how to deal with pesky
friendship problems and
how to be a true friend
to others.
-
From It’s Your
Planet-Love It!,
Breathe,
Aware, Alert, and Affirm
Awards
-
You’ll use all five
senses as you clear the
air — your own and
Earth’s! Once you’ve
become more aware of
what’s up with air,
you’ll inspire others to
act for air and end up
making an impact on
Earth — and its
atmosphere.
-
Each Girl Scout
Cadette Journey series focuses on a
community service project.
Sample Activity for Girl Scout Cadettes
Leaders, especially new leaders attending trainings,
want to come away with some practical activities or
games to use with their girls. Below is an example of an
ideal game to do just that!
This activity is taken from the Girl Scout Cadette
Journey Book, Breathe. The girls will have the
opportunity to reflect on the air around them in order
to conclude that, “Sometimes there’s good air in you…”
Embrace Your Flair
Talk about feeling good about yourself and have the
girls discuss those moments when they are proud to be
who they are. Maybe it is their involvement in Girl
Scouts as a Program Assistant, or when they score a goal
at a soccer game.
Pass out a colored piece of paper to each girl and have
them write down some answers to the following question:
Seize those moments when you feel strongest and most
yourself. Try to have more of them. How can you do that?
Offer the opportunity for girls to share their response
with the group.
Sample Discussion Questions:
1. What did you like
most about this activity?
2. How did it feel
to take a minute to reflect?
This activity helps them identify or discover something
about themselves!
